Overview

Located on Queen Street East in Toronto, Gio Rana's Really Really Nice delivers an authentic Italian dining experience that balances rustic tradition with refined flavors. This restaurant is a celebration of Italian cuisine, with a focused menu that centers on hearty pastas and thoughtfully crafted secondi, making it an ideal destination for both casual diners and those seeking a memorable night out.

The standout dishes here are unmistakably the pasta offerings. The pappardelle cloaked in a rich mushroom sauce showcases deep umami notes that linger on the palate, while the house-made potato gnocchi is a testament to the kitchen’s dedication to texture and freshness, melting effortlessly with its vibrant basil tomato accompaniment. The giant meatball with tomato ragu is a crowd favorite, boasting a robust, meaty flavour that feels both soul-satisfying and refined.

Beyond pasta, the menu's secondi selection offers delights such as the braised veal ossobuco, which is tender and enriched by cremini mushrooms and an Asiago-infused crema, delivering layers of savory complexity. For lovers of bold combinations, the involtini—pulled pork wrapped in beef tenderloin with goat cheese—showcases an inventive approach to classic Italian elements. Freshness extends to the contorni, with dishes like sautéed rapini and Tuscan fries that add herbal brightness and a satisfying crunch to the meal.

Guests who have sampled the food consistently praise the quality and generous portions, often highlighting the exceptional meatballs, calamari, and tiramisu. The atmosphere is welcoming and spacious, managing to feel cozy even when bustling with diners. Service is attentive yet unhurried, with knowledgeable staff that enhance the dining experience by offering helpful menu insights.

While the pasta occasionally arrives just shy of perfect doneness, this does little to detract from the overall impression of quality and care. The restaurant’s lively ambiance is suited to celebrations, friendly gatherings, and anyone eager to dive into true Italian comfort food crafted with skill and passion.

For diners seeking a genuine taste of Italy in Toronto’s vibrant east end, Gio Rana’s Really Really Nice offers a memorable culinary journey—a blend of bold flavors, skilled execution, and warm hospitality that invites a return visit every time.

This place is a must. We come to Toronto once a summer and we don't miss this place. The meatball, the calamari was probably the best I've ever had in my life. The osabuko The seafood linguni, the Panna Cotta, you cannot go wrong with whatever you order..

Food is very fairly priced, good portions, although I found the pasta to be very slightly undercooked end the night I went. That said, I absolutely loved the giant meatball dish! So flavourful, meaty and filling. Ambiance was great, staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back and worth a try if you are in the area!

Absolutely delicious food. The pasta is definitely the star of the show and cannot be missed. My only comment not so glowing is that the cocktails are very sweet - so stick to the wine, beer and digestivo list and you are golden.

We came here for the first time last night to celebrate my partner finishing their Master’s degree. We arrived around 8pm and the place was very busy with a small waitlist, and a number of large reservations waiting for tables. The host was super friendly, funny and affable, really lightening the mood as we waited. We were seated fairly quickly and our server was wonderful. He checked in regularly, and was very knowledgeable of the menu. The food came extremely quickly and was fresh and delicious, and even though the service was fast we never felt rushed in any way, and when we were done our meal we were not made to feel like we had to get up and leave immediately. The place was large but still felt cozy. They were able to fit a lot of customers without any table feeling or looking cramped. Music was a bit loud, but not overly so and to me that’s understandable for a Saturday night. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food, which is always a big bonus. Just be aware that in order to keep the efficiency of the restaurant going, they do not accept modifications/substitutions to the dishes, and will not do separate/split bills for one table. I’m not sure how this works with extremely large groups, however. We will be back for sure!

The staff was super friendly and nice. The food was out of this world. We had the deep fried olives, risotto balls (to die for) and Tuscan fries!!! For mains - we had a gnocchi - super soft and yummy fresh basil tomato sauce and papardelle - hands down the best mushroom based sauce I’ve had so far!! The atmosphere was very cozy and gorgeous. 100% recommend!!!

Hellooooo bb. The vibes, food, and service here was immaculate. I was indeed craving pasta and this place has satisfied my cravings way beyond my expectations. My friend and I got the Pappardelle, Carpaccio, &&& Meatballs!! Zack/Zac/Zach (sorry for misspelling ur name) was so lovely. He made our entire Gio Rana’s experience even better. He was just so warm and welcoming. The food came out right away and it was delicious overall, with fair pricing. And lastly, I just enjoyed how the place made me feel; super cozy, especially on this cold day (yes it started snowing). Will def be back and this time will try some desserts!! Thank you for a great dinner <3 I go cry now byeeeee.

I've never left a review before, but after a truly exceptional meal at Gio Rana's I had to post one. My friend and I were warmly welcomed when we arrived. The restaurant was busy but the music selection was fun and the room buzzing with lively conversion. All of the staff was charming, attentive, helpful, fun and patient. There was a rare feeling of staff chemistry, like everyone genuinely enjoyed working there and had pride in the restaurant. The cocktails were really great, as were the focaccia and the mushroom pasta. The Butternut squash crespelle though stole the show, it was absolutely divine in flavor and texture. I can't think of the last time I've had a dish so delicious, conversation wasn't possible, it was just that enjoyable. In addition the prices are so reasonable for an incredible restaurant experienc., I really appreciate that it's accessible pricing! I will be back on next Toronto visit!

I had the Arancini balls, tried the Bronzino, the gnocchi and the mushroom pappardelle. Everything was good aside from the gnocchi. The tomato sauce tasted like ketchup. Like the sauce was cooked for too long, and they did remove them from our bill. For a family style restaurant, I would still recommended it. It’s really lively and, it’s nice for a date too. Though my preference is always fresh pasta, which would be my pick over Gio.
